A message from the Guest Editors: In the past, special issues have been organized focusing on the biological effects of PM2.5 and nanoparticles. In the present issue, however, we have deliberately narrowed the scope to highlight allergic reactions and immune responses induced by fine particles. The impetus for this special issue arose from our exposure to a wide range of research outcomes generated through medical?engineering collaboration and interdisciplinary integration within the CREST research area, \u201cExtracellular Particles: Elucidation of Life Phenomena Induced by Extracellular Particles and the Development of Fundamental Technologies for Their Control.\u201d In this issue, four experts from the fields of medicine and pharmaceutical sciences present comprehensive overviews of particle-induced allergic reactions and immune responses, covering topics from fundamental mechanisms to applied and translational developments. Although the articles included herein represent only a small portion of the research achievements attained in this field, we hope that this special issue will encourage readers to consider the significance and potential of cross-disciplinary perspectives, as well as the role of aerosol technology in integrative research, thereby providing a stimulus for future research activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
