The formation, transport, transformation, and deposition of aerosols including PM2.5 in the atmosphere, along with their effects on ecosystems and human health, represent significant environmental challenges. The Japan Aerosol Society has long recognized atmospheric aerosols and transboundary air pollution as critical research areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2001 to 2005, a pioneering research project funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) titled \u201cAtmospheric Environmental Impact of Aerosols in East Asia\u201d (led by Professor Mikio Kasahara, Kyoto University) was conducted. This was followed by a new project, \u201cImpact of Aerosols on Plants and Humans in East Asia\u201d (led by Shiro Hatakeyama), which ran from November 2008 to March 2013. This interdisciplinary project involved researchers from science, engineering, medical biology, and social sciences, aiming to establish \u201cAerosol Environmental Science.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
